WHO TAUGHT US?
My Generation, Who Taught You?
Oh, my generation, who has bewitched us?
Who has lied to us?
Who told us that the ancient landmarks meant nothing?
Who told us that departing from the ways of our fathers was a new trend?
Who told us that conforming to sensibility rather than spirituality was a new culture?
My generation, what has come over us?
We have forgotten to ask about the ancient landmarks and the things that brought about covenant. We have chosen to enjoy the benefits of covenant, yet we have forgotten the consecration that birthed it.
We love the miracles, but we hate the stories that forged them.
My generation, I weep.
And the Father asks, “Who taught these ones?”
Because I know no one who taught them this.
“They did not learn it from Me,” He says.
And so, I have a question for you, my generation:
Who taught you to depart from the ancient landmarks?
Who taught you to depart from covenant?
Who taught you to abandon the principles of our fathers?
Who taught you to reason sensibly and forget the spirituality that shaped your fathers?
For you have looked toward Egypt and seen the way they do things, and you have said, “Yes, this is better than the way we were commanded to live.”
Yet you have forgotten:
You do not sing Israel's song in Babylon, and you do not sing Babylon's song in Israel.
Little wonder we are being returned to Babylon faster than we should.
Little wonder we are fast-tracking the days of darkness, days that should have belonged to ages yet to come.
But we said, “No. We want it in our days.”
And now, this is what we are seeing.
So I ask again:
Who taught you?
Who taught you to leave the ancient landmarks?
Who taught you to forget the steps and the faith of our fathers?
Who taught you to carve out your own path and say, “This is what I am going to do because our fathers knew no sense”?
Who taught you?
My generation, I weep.
And the Lord has come to ask:
“Where did you learn this?”
Because you did not learn it from Me.
Even the Lord Jesus came according to an order. He submitted Himself to a pattern. Yet we have all decided to forget the order in which we have been placed.
So I ask again, my generation:
Who taught you?
